Nuit Blanche '09 - Things are Happening Here

Nuit Blanche is back! This Saturday Toronto will basically shut down for one of the city's most fascinating events of the year. Nuit Blanche is an art festival. It is an event. And most importantly it is a all night party of madness. I've put together a small list of selections I think will be worthy of seeing. Most years I find Queen West is the place to be if you want to really take advantage but the exhibits spawn all over the city so its really up to you where you chose to meander. Here's my picks.
1. The Drake Hotel - The Sight of Sound
The Drake in my eyes is the flagship of Nuit Blanche. Although it'll probably be extremely busy, I'd suggest checking out this year. The entire Drake is being transformed into different installations and the night will be headed by interactive and interconnecting musical performances.
2. The Gladstone Hotel - Nuit Gladstone IV
The Gladstone will still be open to Karaoke this Saturday evening, they've promised. Nuit Gladstone IV will be full of fun and weird before the karaoke however. The exhibit takes up both floors of The Gladstone and will be filled with contemporary art involving over 100 artists. For more information check out the official page (link above)
3. 518 Bay St. - Pwn the Wall by Graffiti Research Lab
Pwn the Wall is an exhibit brought to us by Graffiti Research Lab. The exhibit is a multimedia presentation that gives us a taste of a new technology that gives spray paint an infrared light allowing artists to bomb at night. Should be cool.
4. The Distillery - PhotoSecret
PhotoSecret is an interactive installation in the Distillery that encourages visitors to share a secret by writing a text or taking a photo. The photos and texts will be randomly paired and displayed somewhere extremely visible t the public. Sounds fun.
5. Rhino Bar - Rhino Animated Film Festival
The Rhino Bar on Queen is holding a night of animated shorts on the outdoor patio (hopefully heated). The shorts come in all different forms of animation and should be a lot of fun. Co-Presented by Toronto Animated Image Society.
