SNOOTY PRESENTS: THE 20 BEST ALBUMS OF 2009 (#2)
I have to start off completely off topic and apologize to all the Snooty supporters that have been patiently awaiting the finale to the Top 20 of '09. IM SORRY! Now that thats over with lets get back to the countdown. #2, easily my favorite album of the second half of '09. The Rural Alberta Advantage, as the name suggests, are Canadian-born and raised. But don't be fooled, The Advantage is a truly talented band with a raw and authentic 'rural' sound. Although their debut Hometowns was originally released in 2008, the subsequent re-release in 2009 under Saddle Creek Records was what really turned all eyes on 3-piece band that is The Rural Alberta Advantage. Their lyrics are deep, their beats make you wanna break shit, and vocals from Nils Edenloff (that are reminiscent of a young Billy Corkin) brings together a sound that is unique, intense and all around fucking beautiful. I saw them live at Lee's in November (check out the concert review) and they were absolutely phenomenal. The best concert I saw in 2009. The album topped with a live performance like none other is the reason why The Advantage, an underdog Canadian garage indie band, has won themselves the #2 track on the Snooty Top 20 Albums of 2009 with their debut Hometowns. I fucking love you all.
